For holidaymakers looking for some winter sun Majorca is a good choice. The Island’s main resorts around Alcudia and Magaluf are a bit more easygoing than in the summer months when all the hedonists arrive for as much fun as they can pack in to their short stays. The upside is that there are still some decent bars looking to offer a good deal so they can fill their establishments with the relative trickle of winter visitors to Majorca hotels. Holidaymakers should be able to find some good deals on drinks and some shopping bargains around the flea markets in Palma and Alcudia.

14 degrees may not sound much in the summer but for a winter break it will be practically boiling to the holidaymakers that have boarded planes in temperatures struggling to get above freezing. Not only are the coolest months, January to December, markedly warmer than northern Europe they are also very bright. Clear blue skies and golden sandy beaches make sunglasses a must in the winter months and holidaymakers can get a bit more use out of their beachwear. Night time does get a little cooler though so it is advised that visitors do pack something a warm for the evenings outside of their Majorca hotels.

A visit to Palma may surprise holidaymakers that thought Majorca was full of the concrete high rises familiar to many Spanish Islands. The capital has a very cosmopolitan feel for such a small city and so much history and traditional food for visitors to experience. There are nice streets to go shopping, beautiful beaches not too far away, and in the city centre Cathedral de Palma would not look out of place in any major European capital. The Placa Major would be right at home amongs the grand squares of Madrid and is a beautiful place to walk through during the day or at night.

In Roman times Alcudia was the capital of Majorca. Since then the Moors and then the Spaniards have ruled the Island, leaving their architectural marks. Tourists can walk around what remains of the old roman town, which has a couple of the grander hotels, or visit the beaches when the winter weather is at its warmest. Not too far away in Formentor are the beautiful views of Mirador des Colomer and the old lighthouse looking out into the Mediterranean Sea. Holidaymakers that like a walk and nice views should take advantage of the clear days to have a walk around Formentor.
